Central PA Humane Society vandalized, officials say
ALTOONA, Pa. (WJAC) — Officials with the Central PA Humane Society says they were the victims of vandalism Tuesday.
They said the vandals were not able to enter the shelter, so all the animals are safe; however, the outside of the building and the two shelter vehicles were extensively damaged.
Humane Society officials said the boiler room that heats their cattery was destroyed in an attempt to steal the copper piping which caused severe water damage to the entire room.
Multiple crashes shut down lanes of RT 322
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (WJAC0 — Multiple crashes that shut down lanes in both directions of Route 322 Wednesday have reopened.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation says the first crash happened sometime around 8 a.m. Wednesday in the eastbound lanes near the College Avenue exit.
Another crash was reported two hours later in the westbound lanes near Oak Hall and Lemont, according to PennDOT.
The first crash resulted in the death of a 47-year-old Bellefonte man.
Severe weather storms continue to cause havoc as tornado rips through Texas
TEMPLE, Texas (TND) — The severe weather turned south Wednesday after a deadly tornado wreaked havoc in the small city of Greenfield, Iowa the day before.
Severe weather storms moved through Temple, Texas Wednesday night. Temple, a city of more than 90,000 people north of Austin, issued an emergency declaration after a tornado swept through the area and caused widespread damage. Thousands of residents lost power, schools canceled Thursday's classes and the city's facilities were closed.
Biden administration proposes rule to speed up some asylum denials
(TND) — The Biden administration is pushing for changes to speed up the rejection of some asylum claims.
The Department of Homeland Security announced Thursday afternoon that it proposed a rule to allow some claim denials in a matter of days versus potentially years.
The number of migrants the new rule would apply to is small, DHS said.
It would apply to those denied a legal basis to remain in the United States based on risk to our national security or public safety.
OSHA fines Centre County food plant for safety, health violations
CENTRE COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — A Centre County food processing plant has been "heavily fined" by the federal Department of Labor.
The Hanover Foods Corporation has a processing plant in Centre Hall and last year, the labor department's Occupational Safety and Health Administration opened an investigation there and has now cited the company with 70 violations.
OSHA claims the plant was in violation of dozens of safety and health hazard regulations.
Penn State suspends Phi Kappa Psi fraternity for 'social violation'
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa (WJAC) — Penn State has placed the Lambda chapter of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity on an interim suspension for a "social violation," according to a release.
University officials say that the fraternity hosted a gathering on Tuesday, August 18th, which "exceeded state and local government directives and directly violated the University’s policy which states 'no socials of any kind' will be approved for Greek-life organizations amid COVID-19 concerns.
Rare, two-headed rattlesnake found in New Jersey forest
PEMBERTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) -- It looks like something from a science fiction movie.
A newborn two-headed timber rattlesnake has been found in New Jersey's Pine Barrens. Herpetological Associates of Burlington County CEO Bob Zappalorti says the snake has two brains and each head acts independently of the other.
Two employees at the organization spotted the reptile in a nest where a timber rattlesnake was giving birth late last month.
Robert Morris hockey team visits local fire department
JOHNSTOWN, Pa (WJAC) — The Robert Morris University hockey team paid a visit to the Johnstown fire department on Friday.
Firefighters showed them around and gave the team a glimpse of what they do every day.

WASHINGTON (7News) — Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key bridge disaster has highlighted a common structural vulnerability in thousands of American bridges. More than 17,000 bridges lack structural redundancy, just as the Francis Scott Key Bridge did. Engineers call these bridges "fracture critical," meaning if one structural support fails, the entire bridge can collapse. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) immediately identified this lack of structural redundancy as a factor in the Key Bridge’s failure.
