Jail where murderer Danilo Cavalcante escaped plans to wall off yard and make other upgrades
The Pennsylvania jail from which convicted murderer Danilo Cavalcante brazenly escaped, eluding searchers for two weeks, plans to enclose its exercise yards with walls and a roof and make inmates wear brighter uniforms, along with other security improvements.
The Chester County jail board unanimously approved plans Wednesday to fully enclose the exercise yards at the facility in Pocopson, southwest of Philadelphia. The project is expected to cost $2.5 million to $3.
Man stung over 400 times; man, hive saved
SAN ANTONIO (WOAI/KABB) — A Texas man was stung more than 400 times by honey bees.
"Bee wranglers" with the American Honey Bee Protection Agency removed and relocated a colony of bees from an abandoned boat in a wooded area in San Antonio on Thursday.
Hector Ramirez, a real estate agent, was stung by the bees on May 2 while he and his father were clearing land with a tractor.
No one injured after car crashes into Blair County salon
Blair Co., PA (WJAC) — 911 officials in Blair County say no one was hurt after a car slammed into a local salon Monday morning.
According to dispatchers, crews were called to the Tame Your Mane hair salon, in East Freedom, around 9:30 a.m. for a reported crash.
Authorities say despite there being people inside the salon at the time of the incident, no injuries were reported.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
Truck driver gets only traffic citations for Route 22 crash that killed 2, records show
EBENSBURG, Pa. (WJAC) – The driver of a coal truck that ran a red light on Route 22 near Ebensburg and killed two people is only facing traffic citations, court records show.
Leonard Hite, 70, was cited for careless driving resulting in death and running a red light.
The crash happened in May last year. Police said Hite ran the red light at the Unimart intersection hitting a car with Richard, 77, and Therese, 71, Dow and their dog inside.
Black bear found dead inside plastic bag in Virginia
ARLINGTON, Va. (WJLA) — An investigation is underway after a black bear was found dead inside a plastic bag in Arlington, Virginia.
According to the Animal Welfare League of Arlington, animal control deputies were called to the area of Spout Run Parkway near North Adams Street for a possible dead dog inside of a plastic bag on Friday. The deputies were able to identify the animal as an adult black bear.
Blair Co. Miracle League dedicates statue to late teammates
ALTOONA, Pa. (WJAC) — For a long time now, the Miracle League of Blair County has been providing a space for the community to play baseball. Saturday, they honored their fallen teammates with a statue.
"Especially to the Miracle League players we have lost over the years, five of them have passed on, and we wanted to remember them today," said founder Joe Reed.
Reed told us the Blair County Miracle League has been running the bases for 15 years now.
CamTran exploring options for major repairs of Johnstown Inclined Plane
JOHNSTOWN -- It's a popular attraction for visitors and the community but according to Cambria County Transit Authority officials, major repairs may be underway for the Johnstown Inclined Plane this fall.
"We are going to try to cooordinate this so most of the work is done in the down time. We may have to close a little early this fall and may open a little late next spring," said the chairman of the CamTran board, Ed Cernic Jr.
Crews battle house fire in Jackson Township
JACKSON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WJAC) — Several Cambria County fire crews are responding to a house fire in Jackson Township.
County authorities say the fire started at a home along William Penn Ave. just after 5:30 p.m. Friday.
So far, no injuries have been reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Delgrosso's Amusement Park in Blair County Reopens Rides for First Time Since 2019
TIPTON/BLAIR COUNTY, Pa — Delgrosso’s Park in Blair County had been closed since the pandemic began. However the amusement park ended its hiatus this morning, reopening its rides for the first time since 2019.
The amusement park in Tipton hadn’t opened its rides for two full years on account of the pandemic.
Now that things are trending in the right direction, park officials felt it was safe to bring back the fun in the sun.
