If you stare at the eclipse, with inappropriate glasses, it can literally burn the retina and cause blindness.

Mississippi Jane Doe found in 1991 identified 30 years later as Pa resident

PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) — A woman whose body was found 30 years ago in Mississippi has finally been identified thanks to DNA and the persistence of cold case investigators. Authorities found the woman's body in 1991 in a swampy area of Vancleave in Mississippi's Jackson County. WLOX-TV reports the body is believed to have been there for up to three years before it was found. On Thursday, Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell said Jane Doe has a name -- 22-year-old Kimberly Ann Funk of Sharon, Pennsylvania.

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (WACH) — A 27-year-old woman was sentenced to prison for the death of her newborn daughter on Wednesday, according to the Eleventh Circuit Solicitor's Office. Brennan H. Geller was sentenced to 22 years in prison for the death of her newborn Kimberly Faith Taylor. Chief Administrative Judge Walton J. McLeod, IV, sentenced Geller following her guilty plea to homicide by child abuse. Geller is not eligible for parole under South Carolina law.

Report shows impacts of Biden's college debt forgiveness plan in Pa. amid calls for repeal

(WJAC) — A new report out this week said nearly two million Pennsylvanians would get a total of nearly $22 billion in college debt relief from President Joe Biden’s plan to provide loan forgiveness. "Jobs are increasingly requiring higher education, yet we continue to underfund higher education, and students really are strapped down with incredible amounts of debt," said Diana Polson, Senior Research Analyst for Keystone Research Center and the PA Budget and Policy Center.

For 74 years, the name "Bob's Army & Navy" has been known to many across the region and in other parts of the state. In June, however, it'll close its doors. "It's always been family-owned. Historic Rathskeller will close, along with Spats Cafe

STATE COLLEGE - A historic State College bar will soon close. The Ratheskeller, which has been serving customers for more than eight decades, is closing, it was announced Monday. So, too, is Spats Cafe & Speakeasy. Restaurant owners Duke and Monica Gastiger said their leases weren't renewed by the new property owners, so they will be closing both restaurants. The historic All-American Rathskeller opened just three days after prohibition was repealed in 1933.

Huntingdon county community holds vigil for injured trooper, rallies in support of his recovery

Dozens gathered at the Alabaster House Church to hold a vigil for Lt. James Wagner, who is in critical condition after a shooting in Mifflintown, Juniata County. Wagner was shot on Saturday June 17th, during the same incident that Trooper Jacques Rougeau was shot and killed after encountering an individual who was the subject of a manhunt following two incidents in Juniata County. State Police say, the man that shot the two troopers, went to the Troop G Headquarters and shot at marked patrol units which then led to the manhunt.

Off-duty Philly cop shot while helping fellow officer

PHILADELPHIA, Pa (AP) — An off-duty Philadelphia police lieutenant was shot and wounded early Friday while trying to help another officer apprehend an armed man. Authorities say Lt. Robert Friel underwent surgery for a leg wound and was expected to make a full recovery. The 50-year-old armed man, whose name has not been released, had been reported missing late Thursday by a caller who also said the man had guns and had been using drugs.
