Located in the constellation Auriga, it is about 10,000 light-years away from Earth in the outer part of the Milky Way, almost exactly in the opposite direction from the galactic center.

Over 90 dogs rescued from distressing conditions by Bedford County Humane Society

An investigation into a Bedford County home on New Year's Eve has led to the Bedford County Humane Society being extremely overcrowded. More than 90 dogs were brought to the shelter on Sunday night and volunteers say they were here until one in the morning making the dogs as comfortable as they could be. New Year’s quickly became busy for the workers at the shelter. The shelter manager Kathy Ramsey says that they can comfortably fit about forty-five dogs and that after last night they have about one-hundred and fifteen.

Bedford County man sexually assaulted 2 teenage girls multiple times, police say

EVERETT - A Bedford County man is in jail after police say he sexually assaulted two teenage boys. Police said Jason Strunk, 48, of Everett, sexually assaulted the 18-year-old and 16-year-old victims multiple times between Jan 1 and Thursday. Strunk faces three counts of felony corruption of minors, three counts of felony unlawful contact with a minor, three counts of misdemeanor indecent assault of a person less than 16 and three counts of misdemeanor indecent assault without consent.

Johnstown restaurant announces plans for $1.2M expansion downtown

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — A popular Johnstown restaurant has announced plans for a $1.2 million expansion that would bring a large outdoor dining courtyard and top floor cigar bar to downtown. The owners of Balance Restaurant, Intrignia Incorporated, say the company bought the three properties located next to Mission Inn Event Space on Main Street. They say they’re planning do develop “a new casual restaurant, a large outdoor dining courtyard, additional banquet space, a top floor cigar bar, and an updated kitchen to expand catering operations.

Mo-Valley prison to reopen as federal immigrant detention center, commissioners say

CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Clearfield County took public comment and voted on allowing an area prison to operate as an immigrant detention center. Clearfield County commissioners approved a five-year agreement with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, and the privately-run GEO group to operate Moshannon Valley Correctional Center as an immigrant detention center. The prison closed in March, but the deal wasn't without its concerns. Commissioners say that migrants will not be released from the facility into Clearfield County.

Notice of Execution signed for Eric Frein

BLOOMING GROVE TWP., PIKE CO. (WOLF) — Department of Corrections Secretary John Wetzel has signed a Notice of Execution for Eric Frein today. The execution is set to take place June 22, 2020 after Frein was convicted and sentenced to death for the 2014 murder of a Pennsylvania State Police Cpl. Bryon Dickson II during an ambush attack of the Blooming Grove barracks in northeastern Pennsylvania. According to a press release, law provides that when the governor does not sign a warrant of execution within the specified time period, the secretary of corrections has 30 days within which to issue a notice of execution.

Phelps Face goes viral as swimmer pursues 20th gold medal

Olympic swimming champion Michael Phelps will compete for the 20th gold medal of his career Tuesday night in Rio. The American will square off against South Africa’s Chad Le Clos, a longtime rival, in the men’s 200-meter butterfly. Phelps, a five-time Olympian, was caught on camera Monday giving his opponent an intense glare. Folks on Twitter, using the hashtag #PhelpsFace, have likened the swimmer to an axe murderer and Anakin Skywalker when he transformed into Darth Vader.

Westmont, BG coaches named to girls' all-state basketball teams; 10 local players selected

Ten local girls and two head coaches were selected to the Pennsylvania Sports Writers All-State Girls Basketball teams on Friday. Bishop Guilfoyle head coach Kristi Kaack won coach of the year in Class 1A. Kaack led the Marauders to their second PIAA state championship in four years. Bishop Guilfoyle will only lose one senior and the entire starting lineup is expected to return. Westmont Hilltop head coach Brittany Eisenhuth won coach of the year in Class 3A.

Cambria Co. school district to pay back $3.7M following alleged 'error' by county

Cambria Co., PA (WJAC) — An alleged error made by Cambria County officials is making for some tough choices for leaders in the Central Cambria School District. A school board meeting was held Monday evening where leaders voted to move forward with a feasibility study to explore consolidating their two elementary schools. The decision came after a recent tax settlement where officials claim that the county mistakenly appraised a natural gas power plant in Jackson Township at five times its actual value.
