1 of 8 charged in kidnapping, murder of Indiana Co. man pleads guilty but mentally ill
INDIANA COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Authorities say one of eight individuals charged in the 2022 kidnapping and killing of a 19-year-old Indiana County man is facing life in prison after pleading guilty but mentally ill.
Taylyn Edwards, now age 20, of Johnstown, reportedly conspired with seven others to kidnap and kill Hayden Garreffa.
Police say Garreffa's body was found in a remote, wooded area in Brush Valley Township in October of 2022.

Renovations continue to transform Tyrone Armory into recreation center
TYRONE - The Tyrone Armory is getting a facelift with new owners, a new floor and a new look inside.
But the outside of the building will remain the same.
"The Armory has such a history, it goes back until 1912. Nobody wanted to see it go," said Jim Kilmartin, of Joshua House, the nonprofit renovating the building.
Joshua House's mission focuses on the youth of the area, so leaders decided to transform the unused building into a community recreation center.

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy postponed all his upcoming foreign trips as Ukraine's army battled to contain a front-line push by the Kremlin's forces, as U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Wednesday visited a drone manufacturing facility in Kyiv on the second day of a visit meant to reassure Ukrainians of continuing American support.
Zelenskyy canceled all foreign visits "that were planned for the coming days," his office said Wednesday on Telegram.
Bishop McCort's Bo Bassett ties state history
JOHNSTOWN, PA (WJAC) - Bishop McCort Catholic eighth-grader Bo Bassett tied history this weekend. Bassett won his 8th Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling state championship, a previous record held solely by Nico Cortese from Franklin Regional. Over the course of the three-day tournament, no wrestler went the full length against Bassett. The world champion defeated every opponent he faced by technical fall in the first period. In the first place bout on the 117 lbs mats, Bassett won 19-4 technical fall in the first period.
Cambria County nurse receives award for outstanding patient care
A Cambria County nurse received an excellence award Friday.
DaVita Kidney Care presented Abby Salvador with a Daisy Award for extraordinary nurses at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center's Atrium.
Salvador was nominated for the award by fellow coworkers and patients for her outstanding and compassionate care.
She moved to the area from the Philippines and had to work hard to adjust from her training there to be successful now.
Salvador said, “I’m really proud and thankful and grateful for my team, because I wouldn’t be doing this without my teammates; with our managers, with our heads, and, along with our clinical coordinator teammates, along with my fellow Filipinos; without them, I wouldn’t be here.
Denver to spend $4 million to convert gym to migrant housing
DENVER (TND) — Denver city leaders approved a $4 million purchase agreement Monday to acquire a former gymnasium building which it is currently using to shelter migrants.
Denver Community Church previously owned the building and a nearby vacant lot, both of which were acquired by the council through the purchase. The city had been temporarily leasing the property since 2023 and using it as a group shelter for migrant families.
PA Turnpike is world's most expensive toll road, study claims
If you’ve driven on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, you’ve driven on the most expensive toll road in the world, one study claims.
The Australian insurance company, Budget Direct, recently released a report looking at the prices of toll roads in 20 countries.
According to the report, drivers can expect to pay $112.91 when traveling the 360-mile length of the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
The second most expensive toll road in the world is the Grossglockner High Alpine Road in Austria with a cost of $45.
Somerset votes to increase taxes; residents share mixed responses
SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Increasing taxes was at the forefront of discussion at the Somerset Commissioners meeting on Tuesday.
Residents shared their frustrations with commissioners, who explained why they say they are raising taxes.
The decision goes both ways as there are people who say they understand, while others say they don’t want things to change.
Somerset County commissioners passed a motion Tuesday to increase taxes for residents.
“I want to know where the money is going,” one resident said.
