Utah woman ID'd as female found near I-80 in Clearfield

Clearfield Co., PA (WJAC) — State police have released new details on the investigation into a woman whose body was found in a wooded area near Interstate 80 in Clearfield County earlier this month. Police have identified the woman as Ivana Meandzija, of Utah. Investigators say her body was found on the morning of May 2nd by a construction worker in an area between Hoopup Road and the I-80 westbound 123 off-ramp.

Amy Arcurio named Greater Johnstown superintendent

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — A new superintendent has been named in the Greater Johnstown School District. It's the first permanent superintendent since November 2016. It was a unanimous decision to appoint current Assistant Superintendent Amy Arcurio to the position. She replaces substitute Superintendent Frank Frontino. The Greater Johnstown School District has had substitute superintendents since November 2016, when then-Superintendent James Cekada went on paid sabbatical leave. After his retirement this summer, Frontino was appointed substitute superintendent and the Pennsylvania School Boards Association led the search for a permanent leader.

Clearfield Co., PA (WJAC) — State police in Clearfield County say a Grampian man was killed over the weekend following a high-speed chase in Penn Township. Troopers say on Saturday, around 11:30 p.m., police attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a black SUV in the area of Windy Hill Road. Investigators say the driver, later identified as 38-year-old Matthew Chelgren, reportedly failed to stop and fled police at a high rate of speed.

CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — A mistrial has been declared in the case of a DuBois man accused of sexually abusing a girl for over a year after authorities say a Clearfield County jury was deadlocked on a verdict. Police arrested Sean Lechiara last August following an investigation into allegations that he had repeatedly assaulted the victim, beginning when she was approximately 12 years old. Lechiara was charged with over 100 various felonies, including rape of a child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault, statutory sexual assault and invasion of privacy.

BOSTON, Mass. (WJAR) — The Massachusetts man who received the world's first pig kidney transplant has died. Massachusetts General Hospital announced the news Saturday, two months after the procedure. Richard Slayman of Weymouth made history after receiving the surgery. The pig kidney had undergone genetic editing and the transplant operation took a team of surgeons four hours to complete, according to Mass General. The pig kidney was provided by eGenesis of Cambridge, Mass.

25-year-old charged with attempted homicide, arson following incident in Mount Union

MOUNT UNION, Pa (WJAC) — Authorities say a 25-year-old man faces charges of attempted homicide following an incident in Mount Union Borough Thursday morning, according to a criminal complaint. Troopers say Talen Trice faces charges of attempted homicide, aggravated assault and arson after he reportedly stabbed and burned another man. The complaint states that around 8:45 a.m. Thursday, troopers were dispatched to North Division Street, near Mount Union High School, for a report of a single-vehicle crash and fire.
