Fire prevention was the main lesson for students at Windber Area Elementary School on Wednesday morning.
Hundreds of students took part in their 3rd annual Health and Safety Walk and Fire Prevention Day.
Students started by taking a walk outside and getting a healthy snack bag.
They ended up in the gym -- where they sat in on a fire prevention assembly -- hosted by members of the Windber Fire Department and Northern EMS.
Man facing homicide charges in death of pregnant Amish woman
A man has been arrested after a five-day investigation into the death of a pregnant Amish woman in Crawford County earlier this week, state police said.
According to a press release, state police were notified of a deceased female at a home on Fish Flats Road in Sparta Township around 12:30 p.m. Monday afternoon and the death was investigated as a homicide.
State police announced that Shawn Cranston, 52, had been identified and taken into custody Saturday morning.

Westmont Hilltop on two-hour delay Thursday morning

Westmont Hilltop School district will be on a two-hour delay on Thursday, February 2nd, 2023. The school district says the delay will allow teachers to prepare for the school day.

4 inducted into Business Hall of Fame in Johnstown
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — Four more laureates were inducted into the greater Johnstown/Cambria County Business Hall of Fame Friday night at the Pasquerilla Conference Center in downtown Johnstown.
Those earning induction during the 28th annual event were former Conemaugh Health System Chief Executive Officer Scott Becker, the former head of Wessel & Company in downtown Johnstown, Bob Eyer, and Carl Sax, an engineer who spent time with U.S. Steel, and as general manager with Penn Machine and Kuchera Defense Systems.

Plans for outdoor performing arts venue at Bellefonte's Talleyrand Park moving forward
Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — Plans for a new outdoor performing arts venue in Centre County are moving ahead with fundraising being a top priority.
The Stage at Talleyrand Project was unveiled a few months ago, with plans for it to be built in Bellefonte’s Talleyrand Park Annex.
Developers say it’s designed to be a state of the art, multi-purpose facility for concerts, shows and other events.
The project has gotten off to a good start, receiving a huge boost from the state through a million-dollar grant from the Department of Community and Economic Development, as fundraising efforts continue.
