UPJ mourns passing of former standout wrestler Leo Feist
CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — The University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown is mourning the loss of one of its former standout athletes.
Leo Feist, a former NCAA regional champion, passed away last Sunday at the age of 60.
Feist, a Cambria County native, graduated from Conemaugh Valley High School and went on to become a four-year starter at UPJ.
Feist was a member of the Mountain Cats' 1982 Regional Championship team.
Fine Wine & Good Spirits stores to begin in-store public access in Yellow Phase counties
Harrisburg, PA — The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board announced on Wednesday that 77 Fine Wine & Good Spirits stores in counties designated in the yellow phase of COVID-19 mitigation efforts will resume limited, in-store public access this week. Eligible stores will open to the public starting on May 8, 2020, and will abide by guidance for businesses issued by the Wolf administration detailing social distancing requirements and other best practices in the interest of public health and safety.
Johnstown man warns others after losing wife in swimming pool accident
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — Johnstown resident Ron Esposito is using his wife's death to warn others about the dangers of pools, and those dangers include more than drownings.
After three children, 11 grandchildren and almost 49 years of marriage, Ron watched his wife, Jean, die as their above-ground swimming pool collapsed.
"That's where she was at when I saw her, over beside those rugs," Esposito said.
On May 30, Kathleen Esposito, who was known to her friends and family as Jean, was killed while trying to drain excess water out of her above-ground pool.
Local physician facing felony theft charges related to former employee's IRA
SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — A Somerset County physician is facing felony theft charges after a former employee says he failed to deposit funds into her IRA account, according to state police.
According to a criminal complaint, a woman reported in Dec. that she had been working for 64-year-old Philip Basala for many years at the Georgian Place.
During her time there she had been paying into a simple IRA from each paycheck but discovered that the funds, totaling $7,272, hadn’t been deposited into her account, the complaint says.
More charges filed against Hyndman man accused of having unlawful contact with teen
Bedford County, PA (WJAC) — According to online court records, additional charges have been filed against a Hyndman man accused of having unlawful contact with a 14-year-old girl.
Troopers say 31-year-old Anthony Troutman was arrested in September after police received a report, from the victim's friend, that Troutman was "engaging in sexually explicit conversations" with the teen, via text message.

New tariffs expected on EVs, other Chinese green energy imports
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Biden administration plans to impose major new tariffs on electric vehicles, semiconductors, solar equipment and medical supplies imported from China, according to a U.S. official and another person familiar with the plan.
Tariffs on electric vehicles, in particular, could quadruple — from the existing 25% to 100%. The plan was described by the people on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to provide details ahead of a formal announcement.
Galleria Mall owner and shopper thoughts on business ahead of Christmas
On one of the busiest shopping days of the year, the owner of and shoppers at the Johnstown Galleria said they are happy with the progress the mall has made recently.
Leo Karruli said he took over ownership of the Johnstown Galleria in September 2022, with only about 30 percent of the stores filled. He said that is now at about 80 percent.
“From what it was last year and this year, I'm very happy with the mall,” Karruli said.
Geistown homicide trial begins; jurors visit crime scene
Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — The trial began Monday for a Johnstown man accused of stabbing a woman to death over the price of a refrigerator during a Facebook Marketplace sale gone wrong.
Joshua Gorgone appeared in front of a jury Monday in Cambria County court.
He is charged with criminal homicide in the death of 54-year-old Denise Williams in April of last year.
Investigators say Williams’ body was found in Gorgone's Geistown apartment, on Old Scalp Avenue, with dozens of stab wounds.
