About 2,500 inmates transferring to new Pennsylvania prison
COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. (AP) -- Over 2,500 inmates at an 89-year-old Pennsylvania prison are being transferred to a new, long-delayed facility about a mile down the road.
The Department of Corrections says the first phase of transfers began just after 9 a.m. Wednesday from the state prison at Graterford to the sprawling, $400 million complex at SCI Phoenix.
Several hundred inmates will be moved each day by bus, for however long it takes to complete the operation.

Suspect in Altoona standoff tried trading cooperation for a 'Sheetz quesadilla'
BLAIR COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Authorities in Blair County are providing new details about an hours-long standoff earlier this month in Altoona as officials say the suspect is now facing nearly two dozen charges, including arson and multiple counts of aggravated assault.
Police say during the early morning hours of Saturday, March 2nd, officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of Rosehill Drive for a "911 misdial."
Authorities say the caller, later identified as 28-year-old Tershar Miller, reportedly told police that he had a gun and threatened to shoot officers if they approached the residence.
Unseasonably mild temperatures mean no penguin parade at zoo
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Unseasonably mild temperatures are stopping penguins from parading around the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium as planned.
The zoo's "Penguins on Parade" event usually kicks off each year at the start of December. But temperatures in the area reached into the mid-50s on Saturday and were expected to hit the mid-60s on Sunday, so officials delayed the launch until Dec. 8.
The zoo's website says temperatures must hover below 45 degrees to be safe for the penguins.

Man gave E-cigarettes to Clearfield County teen after sex assaults
CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Authorities say a Muncy man is behind bars in Clearfield County after he was accused of having sex with a teenage girl, twice.
Police say 33-year-old Nirav Patel reportedly engaged in sexual activity with a 13-year-old girl in a van in Cooper Township.
Police say the teen told authorities that Patel provided her with E-cigarettes in exchange for the sex.
Troopers say Patel also allegedly provided the girl, and another 13-year-old, with alcohol before the second assault.
Penn State football players attend fire company fundraiser
An event for the ‘Fuel the Cause’ fundraiser was held today at Nittany MinitMart's Headquarters.
Former Penn State linebacker LaVar Arrington and current linebackers Curtin Jacobs and Abdul Carter attended the event to support the cause.
Organizers of the fundraiser say two cents are being donated for every gallon of gas sold at Nittany MinitMart in April and May.
One cent comes from Nittany MinitMart and the other comes from PA skills.
Troopers identify man killed in Centre County I-80 crash
CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — UPDATE |
State police in Centre County released the name of the person killed in a commercial vehicle crash along Interstate 80 in Snow Shoe Township.
Troopers say the passenger, 48 year-old Kulwant Singh of California, was ejected from the vehicle after the driver lost control, hit an embankment and overturned the vehicle.
The driver was taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center. No word on the extent of his injuries.
