Mike Sullivan becomes winningest coach in Pens' playoff history

PITTSBURGH (WJAC) — Pittsburgh Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan became the winningest coach in the the team's history of the playoffs following Monday night's Game 4 victory over the New York Rangers. Pittsburgh's 7-2 victory gave Coach Sullivan his 44th career playoff win as coach of the Penguins, surpassing former Stanley Cup champion coach Dan Bylsma. Sullivan took over the coaching duties in December of 2015 and helped guide the Penguins to back-to-back Stanley Cup championships in the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons.

Parents issue notice to priest over closure of Saint Thomas School

BEDFORD, Pa. - Parents of students at the Saint Thomas School in Bedford have sent a notice to Father Richard Tomkosky claiming he violated Canon Law over the decision to close the school at the end of the academic year. The notice is dated March 28 and says that officials decided to close the school January 4. Diocese officials said in January the decision was made due to financial concerns and declining enrollment.

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — A stabbing suspect is among Pennsylvania State Police Troop A’s most wanted. Troop A, located in Ebensburg, released their five most wanted Wednesday. Among those wanted is 27-year-old Jaiquain Taylor who’s accused of stabbing a man at a home in Reade Township last month, according to investigators. Troopers say 26-year-old Tucker Weems is wanted for aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of children. They say 23-year-old Cyle Reed is wanted for strangulation, simple assaults and terroristic threats.

State Police charge news anchor with making up stalker story

ERIE, Pa. (WJAC) — A news anchor and reporter told state police she had become the target of a stalker who progressed from text messages and phone calls to a handwritten note that was slid under her apartment door and sending flowers to her office at the television station. But Pennsylvania State Police now believe it was all fabricated. Haley Potter, 24, of WICU-TV/WSEE-TV in Erie, faces felony and other criminal charges as a result of months worth of tales, according to Erie Times-News.

Bellefonte, Benner areas to 'cut-ties' with CATA by next year

CENTRE COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Mass transit services in the Bellefonte area will be changing this summer but now there is word that those changes could be happening earlier than expected and the transit program for this year is expected to change again next year. Pittsburgh Zoo leaders discuss future of Somerset Co. conservation center

Somerset Co., PA (WJAC) — Somerset County Chamber of Commerce members, along with leaders from the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium discussed the future of the International Conservation Center housed right within the county on Wednesday. Leaders say the one-thousand-acre property in Fairhope is currently home to five breeding elephants, including a recently newborn calf. They say their goal is to continue growing the center to the point where it can house several other endangered animals and eventually release them back into the wild and sustain the captive population.

Police investigate bulldozer crash in Bedford County

WOODBURY TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WJAC) — State police are looking for at least one suspect who they said crashed a bulldozer Monday. They said it happened in Woodbury Township near Hickory Bottom Road and Pulpit Road and the bulldozer belonged to Cottles Asphalt Maintenance. Someone who wasn’t allowed to use the equipment drove the bulldozer into an asphalt roller, causing substantial damage, according to police. They said the roller is valued at $20,000.
