Biden admin. can't enforce new gun sales background check rule in Texas, judge says
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — A federal judge has blocked the Biden administration from enforcing a new rule in Texas that would require firearms dealers to run background checks on buyers at gun shows or other places outside brick-and-mortar stores.
The decision by U.S. District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk, an appointee of former President Donald Trump, came before the rule had been set to take effect Monday. The order also prevents the federal government from enforcing the rule against several gun-rights groups, including Gun Owners of America.

The Barbara Moscato Brown Memorial Library in Emporium will host “crafting for a cause" Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m.

The library staff saw a Facebook post from the "Animal Rescue Collective Craft Guild" that offers crafting patterns for easy-to-make satchels for the wildlife affected by the wildfires in Australia.

PA to send disaster support personnel to California following devastating flooding
HARRISBURG, Pa. (WJAC) — State officials announced that two staffers from the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency are being deployed to California to assist in the recovery efforts after several storms brought devastating flooding and damage to many parts of the state.
“The impact of historic and deadly flooding seen recently in California has been as shocking as it has been heartbreaking,” said PEMA Director Randy Padfield. “Pennsylvania is one of the most flood-prone states in the nation, and as a result, our staff have the experience to provide this much-needed support to our counterparts and communities in California.

Despite leading in every major statistical category, Steelers' linebacker TJ Watt was NOT named as the NFL's Defensive Player of the Year Saturday night during the league's annual awards show.

Despite leading the league in almost every statistical category for his position, Steelers star pass rusher TJ Watt did not receive the league's AP Defensive Player of the Year award during Thursday night's NFL Honors.
Instead, the award went to Cleveland's star pass rusher Myles Garrett.
The Associated Press says Garrett received 23 first-place votes and 165 points to Watt's 19 first-place votes and 140 points. Watt led the NFL this season with 19 total sacks, which earned him the league's Deacon Jones Award.

Legendary Temple basketball coach John Chaney dies at 89
PHILADELPHIA, Pa (AP) — John Chaney, one of the nation's leading Black coaches during a Hall of Fame career at Temple, has died. He was a commanding figure on the court and admired as much for his mentoring of players as for the team's success.
He became a de facto father to dozens of his players, many coming from broken homes. Chaney led Temple to 17 NCAA Tournament appearances over 24 seasons, including five NCAA regional finals.
Police trying to figure out from where nearly $40K in cash found in Ohio restrooms came
MARYSVILLE, Ohio (WSYX) — A money mystery in Marysville has police trying to figure out from where nearly $40,000 came.
More than $25,000 was found in the restroom at the Avalon Theatre on April 27, and then, Thursday night, more than $12,000 was found in the restroom at a KFC restaurant.
Investigators said they're pretty sure the discoveries are related, but still don't know how.

Whitewater park at Greenhouse closed while engineers work 'to reduce risk'
CONEMAUGH TOWNSHIP, Pa. — The water rapids area of Greenhouse Park in Somerset County is closed until at least next Tuesday as engineers decide how to make a section of the man-made whitewater feature safer.
The artificial whitewater rapids in the Stonycreek River were a part of the non-natural whitewater park in Pennsylvania that was designed for boaters and tubers coming down the river. Phase two of the project alone cost $400,000 to construct.
